Question: I have an XMC module that requires 5V power supplies on the VPWR pins, and I need to know if an 80173 8 lane adapter can be made to work with this module. It looks like the board only suppports a 12V connection to VPWR.

Answer: The 80173 adapter was designed to provide 12V power to the VPWR pins. The XMC specification states that this supply rail may be either 5V or 12V and that modules must be able to operate with either supply voltage. Because of the specification, this issue was not foreseen when the 80173 adapter was designed, so we didn't include a facility to supply 5V power to the VPWR pins.

Depending on other module requirements, it may be possible to modify the 80173 adapter to provide 5V on the VPWR pins assuming there is a 5V system power supply available. Contact Innovative for details on this.
