Dear Support,

We have two identical configurations and we have problem with one of them.

Configuration:
- PCIe-XMC adapter 1 lane
- X3-SD
- Boxer AEC-6940 from AAEON (BIOS Version: Phoenix AWARDBIOS Ver 1.1 05/05/2010)

One system works fine.
The second one, when the PCIe-XMC adapter with X3-SD is plugged into the computer. It reboots systematically.

We have changed several into the BIOS. But nothing has changed "Onboard Lan Boot Rom" disable...

Do you have an idea regarding this problem?

Thanks

Arnaud,
Can you check two patches on the board?
First patch is U40 should be removed from secondary side of the board.
Second patch is a cut and a jumper wire on the secondary side of the board. See the picture for details.

Both of these patches pertain to problems with pc booting.
Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,

I received the X3-SD at my office and U40 was already removed.
So I have to try the second patch.
I think there is a mistake on the picture. The arrow points to C487 and not C565. Moreover, there is not a capacitor on C565.

See picture below.

Moreover can you confirm that cut wire close to R302 will cut the wire between one side of R302 and one side of C472?

Thanks for your help.

Arnaud,
My apologies. Our internal documentation included the Rev C board in the Work Instruction document. Rev C does not need the cut and jumper patch.

Is the "Good System" BIOS settings set to default?

Is the "Bad System" BIOS settings identical to the "Good System"?

Have you tried swapping the X3-SD between the good and bad systems?

I'm sure you have, I just have not figured out if it is a system problem, X3-SD problem, or a 1-lane adapter problem.

Thanks,
Ron

Ron-

I can confirm that the two systems are identical and have the same BIOS settings!

The customer did not tried to swap the board because the first one was already intergrated on the final system. Unfortunatelly, this test could not be done.

X3-SD is plugged on PCIe-XMC adpater one lane Rev C
I tried with two computers (mother board ASUS P5K-E and P5GC-MX/1333). Computer boots, board is detected, I can load bitstream and acquire data.

I noted that there is a shock on C602 but it is not the cause of the problem. Use attached file. I will put a signal on all the inputs tomorrow to check inputs

If you have a clue.

Hi Arnaud,
I can not tell from the picture what the cause of the capacitor damage was.

The board setup works as expected in your systems, but not in your customers?

Does "reboot systematically" mean:
Power turns on
Starts to boot
Shuts down
Power turns on
Starts to boot
Shuts down
etc.

Ron

Ron,

Customer’s issue :

1st test with PC Boxer 6940
When he turns off the computer (Start -> Shutdown), the computer shuts down normally and then after 1 to 3 seconds, it turns on itself
This behavior does not appear with the other X3-SD + PCIe-XMC 1 lane

2nd test with PC Shuttle:
Same behavior

Note: in each case, the board is installed on PCI Express 16x slot (dedicated for video card)

To conclude, one couple "X3-SD +PCIe-XMC" works with the configuration above, and the other one has reboot issue

Arnaud,
I investigated the X3-SD Rev C schematic with the X3-SD Rev B schematic. My findings are that the circuits relating to the patch in my first post are identical. This means that our internal documentation is correct, and that the etch cut on R302 and jumper wire from R302 to C565 needs to be applied. My X3-SD did not have this patch but worked fine, similar to your board #1.

If you are able to do the rework, then please do. If you need RMA assistance, please let me know. I will create an ECO to ensure this patch is applied to all X3 modules that require it.

Ron
